George Wesley Andruss

George was born Feb. 18, 1842 at Russellville TN. He was the youngest boy and the only child left at home in 1860.

When the Civil War broke out he was conscripted to the Confederacy by Gen. Longstreet. Not sympathizing with the Southern cause, George deserted and went to Missouri (where brother Orville and sister Dianna were living) and joined the Union Army. During his enlistment he became acquainted with Hannah Rowland, a schoolteacher who boarded in Dianna's house. Upon his discharge, they married on May 10, 1866 at Rock Creek Church, Wellsville, Miami Co. KS.

George was a tinner and put a tin roof on Ft. Leavenworth. He had various jobs hired for in southeast Kansas, but by 1877 he had moved his family to Savoy TX. From there they went to Denison where the twins were born (was there during the tornado that killed Erastus). Later, they moved to Dublin TX where George ran successful hardware and drug stores.
